The Centre for Biomolecular Research and Drug Discovery provides a world class research facility for anti-influenza drug creator Professor Mark von Itzstein and his team of 30 synthetic chemists. It adds a significant new dimension to Australia’s capability in biotechnology and pharmaceutical development and is an integral part of the Griffith Medical Research Institute. PDQ project managed the design and construction of this three level building. Built within time and cost parameters, it provides a number of specialist research facilities as well as chemistry laboratories housing 36 fume cupboards. The building is linked to the adjacent Science 1 building, (also constructed by PDQ) over two storeys and features two steeply pitched pods used to accommodate NMR spectrometers.
