PDQ's Design and Construction team worked closely with the client to create a development which provided an ideal environment for retirement living. Situate close to the centre of Maleny, yet with panoramic rural outlooks, Maleny Grove Live Life Village Stage 1 development involved design and construction of civil works, roads and landscaping the Greenfield site to accommodate 45 independent living villas and a community centre. The villas take full advantage of the tranquility, beauty and northerly aspect of this unique site and have been designed to maximise use of natural light and ventilation. The external appearance of the villas was designed to blend with the architecture of the existing rural community, while being compellingly contemporary in design. Within the internal spaces of the units, there has been particular attention to the needs of older people with subtle yet highly practical design features. Indoor/outdoor integration and pedestrian linkages between the villas and community areas are key features of the project. The overall layout of the development addresses the issues of facilitating pedestrian movement, accessibility and way finding around the village, while ensuring there are smaller ‘hubs’ of units to encourage informal socialisation for the occupiers of individual units. PDQ, as managing contractors have worked closely with Live Life Villages in the design and construction of the project to ensure ecologically sustainable principles were adopted in this innovative development. PDQ's project team were involved throughout the project from the development of the revised Masterplan, to design, Authority Approvals and the construction of the civil works, infrastructure and buildings.
