These refurbishment works included a full strip out and removal of the existing internal non structural walls, floor coverings, windows (external), electrical, mechanical and hydraulic services. We were required to reduce the buildings a bare structure. As part of the works Paynter Dixon Queensland (PDQ) installed 3 new lifts into each of the existing Buildings, new electrical, fire and security services. New bathrooms were also created. New Mechanical services were installed and upgrade to allow the new campus wide chilled water system to be incorporated into the new buildings. During the design of the buildings the architect wanted the buildings to blend into their natural surrounds and a lot of colour was integrated. This is particularly evident in the coloured glass and the aluminium works. Due to the nature of the existing building, PDQ found there were a number of issues that required redesigning on the run. We found trying to run services in certain areas and still maintain the access for ongoing maintenance was a challenge, but PDQ over come these issues. With the experience of the PDQ site team and working with the client and the Architects, the entire team were able to produce great outcomes, within a fully operational facility. The highest priority was to ensure that the new Market Research building had no sound transfer from room to room to safeguard confidentiality. This was quite a challenge due to the open slated ceiling design and working around the existing structures. PDQ were able to achieve this through a number of QA controls put into place. The project was handed over on time and from all reports the end users are very satisfied with the end result.
